Iris Kramer

Iris Kramer grew up on the outskirts of Hamburg. At the age of 9 she started playing the trumpet. When she was 17, friends took her along to a session in Hamburg's legendary "Riverkasematten". That first contact with jazz ignited a spark.

She studied music, jazz and pop music, at Hamburg University of Music and Drama as well as pedagogy and psychology at Hamburg University. In 1984, she co-founded the jazz orchestra "Reichlich Weiblich" (Pretty Feminine) and acted as their composer. They went on tour through all of Europe.

Iris Kramer graduated with the publication of her research paper on "Women in Jazz".

In 1990, she founded the female formation called "so what?", in 1999 the band "Blue Brasil".

For ten years she worked as theatre musician at Hamburg's Thalia Theatre and "Schmidt's Tivoli".

Her CD "Childrens' Games", released in 2002, is dedicated to her three sons. The recording was a co-production with Armenian violinist Ara Malikian.

She toured Iceland with "Blue Brasil" in 2004 and 2006.

In 2006 she moved to Iceland. She worked as a teacher and made appearances in concerts.

In 2009 she moved back to Hamburg, working in different projects and bands.
